Whosa are Yousa? ~ my crappy Star Wars: The Force Awakens review! (Has spoilers)
Perhaps many will agree that the most exciting and endearing part of the Star Wars universe is the Dark Side of the force. I think, at least for me, without the Sith there is not much reason to go see the movies. The Force Awakens' main villain being Kylo Ren.
I think the biggest question before seeing the movie probably was: Who is he?
The answer to that question is nearly flat-out revealed within about 7 minutes into the movie. When an "old friend" of Leia confronts Klyo after his village is attacked by Storm Troopers. He tells Klyo that the First Order rose from the Dark Side, "You did not." Then says something about Ren being "family". It's the most unexciting thing I've ever seen.
Later in the movie, Leia and Han discuss their past love and they mention Klyo being their son.. That's the reveal as far as I remember.
Klyo Ren himself is a pretty entertaining Sith (or is he more of a Dark Jedi?) on his own I think. Adam Driver is a tremendous physical actor. He did not need to take off his helmet in the movie to me. It takes away a lot of menace and mystery. Plus he looked totally normal under it, which is a bit of a let down.
Toward the final scenes it was killing me on how familiar his walk was though. Later that night it dawned on me that it was like Zorg from The Fifth Element. The little limp, the heavy gait, and the cloak flowing around him. It's hilarious.
Daisy Ridley did very well with her character Rey, though it somehow reminded me more of young Anakin Skywalker instead of young Luke Skywalker. I'm hoping she's Obiwan's daughter.
The character Finn was goofy and awkward to watch. His acting and movements felt forced. Poe the pilot was okay I guess. Han and Leia were kinda decent. Han's death was predictable, though I really liked the shot of him falling down after being saber'd.
What's with the new character's names? They're all one syllable and mostly three letters long.
What's with cartoon CGI Snoke?
Most of this movie is saved by the gorgeous cinematography with 35mm film, in my opinion.
6.5/10
I'm too much of a trekkie.

Excellent review. While the masses flock to see this film out of nostalgic fandom, you hit on some key weaknesses here. Love your unbiased and honest views of the characters as well.
New Star Wars movie . Meh . The only thing that was mildly entertaining was Chewbaccas comedic timing . J.J. Abrams is a great director and his Star Trek reboot was great . However maybe like Joey said I'm a Trekkie or I just don't get space opera or space fantasy or horrible anti climactic reveals in space or whatever star wars is supposed to be .
Final word illogical (Spocks Voice)
Thx!
